For the record, there IS a movie out there called Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter. And it's frickin hilarious. This is a must see. I'm serious...it's hilarious, in a really bad but good because it's so bad kind of way. With techno music. Anywho.
Repo! The Genetic Opera: a slight disappointment. I waited for this film for months, and watched it the second I got home from work. I'm thinking it can't be all that bad, right? Anthony Stewart Head + gore + good music + sci/fi futuristic elements + being a musical should = greatness, right? Wrong. I tried so very hard to like it. I really really did. I tried so very hard to like the music. But..it just misses. The songs aren't very catchy, the plot is kind of weak and most of the singing (with the exception of Giles, er..Anthony) was very lame. I liked one or two songs, maybe...but nothing worth putting on an ipod. And Paris Hilton...hmm. I won't even go there. (though she was suprisingly not as painful to watch as I thought). Bottom line: rent it.

Wow: A 12 year old writes her own zombie film. Not only that, but she directs and narrates it by herself, for the most part. With the help of a supportive family, she was able to put her film, "Pathogen" up on it's feet and into production. Greatly influenced by the horror flicks at midnight shows, Emily began writing her film at the age of 11! After posting a want ad for 12 year old girls to star in this horror flick, three filmakers from Austin, Justin Johnstone, Aaron Marshall, and Erik Mauck became intrigued with the idea. Soon enough, they followed young Emily in her quest to make a movie and proceeded to make a documentary out of it, Zombie girl: The Movie. It spans over two years and not only captures Emily's experience as a young director, but explores other young filmmakers' experiences as well. Now it's being considered one of this year's break out hits at the Slamdance Film Festival. I don't know about you, but this girl seems pretty damn cool and I can only hope that whatever kid I might have in the future turns out like this one.

For those living in New York, here is some good news: Zombie, a play written and performed by Bill Connington, will be in Theatre Row, February 18-March 29. The play is adapted from a novella by Joyce Carol Oates and centers around a serial killer. For more information: http://www.zombietheplay.com/

And finally, for those with iphones (you lucky bastards), you can now play a game called Zombie Chav Hunt, a first person shooter dealing with, what else, zombies. Now run off and play your little zombie games in between meetings or classes while I painfully break the high score on my blackberry's brickbreaker for the 80th time. SIGH.
